Elizabeth Taylor  Elizabeth Taylor: The Illustrated Biography

Reader’s review

A fascinating read from start to finish. It chronicles the life of one of the world's most beautiful and famous women from birth until the present day. It explores the child star as well as the screen siren of Hollywood royalty she evolved into. The book is written in an engagingly witty and intelligent style, which is crammed full of facts, references and detail and yet, never becomes too intense or dull. Taylor's most famous roles are discussed from her beginnings at MGM and includes such roles as the sexually charged Maggie in "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" and the troublesome "Cleopatra" as well as her various Oscar nominations and two wins. Elizabeth Taylor is perhaps best known for being Elizabeth Taylor rather than any role she's played and this book attempts to understand why the famously violet-eyed beauty is such an idol. It deals with the usual legendary marriages, tantrums, health scares, weight trouble and lifestyle of excess, but explores a more private side not captured in the ever present glare of the paparazzi. Despite her glamorous and often crticised lifestyle, Elizabeth Taylor has retained her sanity where others haven't and overcome addictions and the deaths of many close friends. She is ultimately a survivor who reamins at heart a romantic, mother and devoted Aids campaigner. Complete with useful filmogrpahy and stunning photographs, this book contains a wealth of information essential for any Taylor fan, old or new.
