Although this book is now slightly outdated, I found it a thoroughly compelling and comprehensive look at the life of one of my favourite stage and screen actresses. This inspiring biography, following all of her ups and downs right from childhood, is sympathetic and uplifting as it details her trials and hard work through over 50 years in showbusiness. The content is given very matter-of-factly and mostly in chronological order. It is extremeley detailed and, amongst other things, shows how Hollywood can be fickle with even the biggest of stars, how the choice between a career and having a family is never easy, and also provides us with insight into the nature and personality of one of our best-loved performers and the work she adores.
